Alcohol worsens disadvantages
Lately I have read an outrageously sad and very true article about alcohol. The article states that, alcohol
makes it harder for poorer people to succeed in a game already heavily weighted against them.
Putting a thought on this very sentence, I came to a chain of "desperate events" leading from starting
problem to disastrous decisions leading you, step by step, to deeper poverty and negative outcomes.
Poorer people tend to live with no or limited access to healthcare facilities, they are surrounded or
involved in criminal activities, having a more stressful life and higher levels of alcohol availability, therefore
slipping more easily into heavy drinking. The middle classes people tend to live a more peaceful life,
"keeping" themselves away from crime and investing in education and future generation.
Unfortunately, the society, besides all the NGOs support for education, alcohol and drugs awareness and
job finding associations, tend to give them fewer options, fewer bonuses and a lot of penalties.
The whole path is a slippery slope for poor people. Lower education gives them no opportunity for job
selection. Additionally poorer people tend to make extra money aside in order to pay living bills, making
them a target for fast and dirty money. They easily get into a problem, and they seek the solution in
alcohol. Unfortunately, alcohol makes all disadvantages even bigger, lowering the opportunities to step
up. Alcohols make poorer people have even bigger problems, compared to the problems they are
already in. They become an easy target, increase the chance of losing their jobs, and even failing deeper into
debts then they were before. This leads to a crime that eventually ends with death since poorer people are
Sad but true, without any fear that I will make them a marginalized group with this article because
society, crime, drugs, and alcohol already had a greater contribution than this article.
